What Is a Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO)?

A Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer is a core component in modern waste gas treatment equipment, designed to eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odorous gases through high-temperature oxidation (800–1000 °C).

How an RTO Works

  1. Preheating Stage – Contaminated air enters a ceramic heat-exchange bed that recovers heat from the previous cycle.
  2. Combustion Stage – The air is heated in the oxidation chamber, converting VOCs into CO₂ and H₂O.
  3. Heat Recovery Stage – Clean, hot air passes through another bed to store energy for the next cycle.
  4. Flow Reversal – Automatic valves switch airflow to maintain temperature balance and maximize thermal efficiency.
