A Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTO) is the most reliable solution for destroying VOCs, HAPs, and odorous emissions from industrial exhaust. It uses high-temperature oxidation (typically 815–980°C) to break down pollutants into CO₂ and H₂O, while recovering up to 97% of the thermal energy through ceramic heat exchange media.
How an RTO Works
The process is simple and continuous:
- Preheating – VOC-laden air enters a ceramic bed that absorbs heat from the previous cycle, raising the gas temperature close to oxidation levels.
- Oxidation – The preheated air flows into the combustion chamber, where a burner maintains the setpoint temperature. VOCs are destroyed with 99%+ efficiency.
- Heat Recovery – The hot, clean air passes through a second ceramic bed, which captures and stores the heat for the next cycle.
- Flow Reversal – Valves periodically reverse the airflow direction between beds, ensuring continuous operation without fuel waste.
